While responding to a medical emergency at Madison College on North Carroll Street, the Madison Fire Department found themselves in the midst of a robbery scene.

According to a Madison Police Department incident report, a criminal grabbed the backpack of a 24-year-old woman, who was seated on a beach in a second floor hallway.

After a brief struggle for her backpack, she yelled “Thief!” which prompted nearby firefighters to chase after the suspect. MFD later handed the case off to MPD after they were unable to track down the suspect.

An MPD officer later found the woman’s backpack next to a dumpster in a nearby alley. But her valuables, which included an iPad, were gone.

The suspect is a white or Hispanic male in his mid to late 20s. He has a shaved head, short beard and was last seen wearing a gray T-shirt.

MPD has yet to respond if they are investigating the incident.
