Though arrests were not out of control last weekend, the University of Wisconsin Police Department released a statement reporting an abnormally high amount of alcohol-related incidents over Final Four weekend.

From Friday through early Sunday morning, UWPD made 10 total detox trips, seven of which involved UW students. The most severe case was a student who was found unconscious in Gordon Commons bathroom with a blood alcohol content of .37.

UWPD spokesperson Marc Lovicott said in the release the alcohol-related incidents as witnessed by UWPD officers were extremely dangerous and “could have led to severe injury or death.”

In all, UWPD officers issued 13 alcohol citations over the weekend including one non-UW affiliated suspect who was arrested for Operating While Intoxicated.

UWPD saw similar high levels of intoxication at the beginning of the school year.

“We understand that people will drink illegally, but we want students to know that these levels are incredibly dangerous,” Lovicott said in a September interview with the Herald.
