Woman attacked on West Gilman Street early Monday morning

A suspicious person who attacked a woman downtown early Monday morning is currently being sought by police.

According to a Madison Police Department incident report:

A 21-year-old Madison woman was attacked from behind on West Gilman Street at 3:10 a.m. Monday morning.

The suspect crept up behind the victim, grabbed her and covered her mouth with one of his hands.

Unable to scream, the victim shoved the suspect and ran toward State Street.

An employee at a nearby restaurant helped the victim and later walked her home.

The suspect was wearing dark clothing at the time of the attack.

A better description of the man is not available at this time.
