The Capitol building was evacuated after fire-alarms went off twice Wednesday morning.
The Madison Fire Department was called to the Capitol at 10:39 a.m. and found the source of the smoke, which was coming from a light fixture, within 20 minutes, MFD spokesperson Eric Dahl said.
The department was dispatched again at 11:11 a.m. for another smoking light fixture, but Dahl said MFD only sent one truck after Capitol police told them it was a similar case.
Dahl said it is not uncommon for the department to receive calls from cases of smoking light fixtures.
“At the Capitol…it does tend to happen with light fixtures from time to time when they get old enough the ballast will burn up and cause smoke,” Dahl said.
