Wisconsin opens its season at home today against Northern Iowa. High expectations surround the Badgers this season as they attempt to win their third Big Ten title in a row. They return key starters in senior running back Montee Ball, junior center Travis Frederick, senior guard Ricky Wagner, junior wide receiver Jared Abbrederis, senior linebacker Mike Taylor and junior linebacker Chris Borland. Over the offseason, the Badgers welcomed transfer quarterback Danny O’Brien to the team who won the starting spot in fall camp. Wisconsin has won its season opener every year since 1998.
Wisconsin takes on the FCS’ Northern Iowa. The Panthers have 14 returning starters this year, including senior cornerback Varmah Sonie. Sonie played in all 13 games las year, recording 70 tackles and three interceptions. UNI finished last season with a 10-3 overall record and finished tied for first in the MVFC with a 7-1 record.
