A late Friday night at Liquid can only mean one thing: a strange yet stimulating EDM spectacle. In the case of Cashmere Cat this past weekend, this involved an electropop legend and flying projectiles.

Madison’s top EDM venue, Liquid, has hosted huge names like Avicii, Dillon Francis and The Chainsmokers, and draws in all walks of life. This past Friday was no exception. The bougey and ratchet alike bumped together to openers Yacht Club & Melvv, Dense City and Affair in anticipation for Magnus August Høiberg — better known as Cashmere Cat — to bring the club’s night to its pinnacle.

‘Musical, artistic co-op’ Foshizzle Family hopes to make EDM accessible for all

Cashmere Cat is a successful artist and producer who has worked with the likes of Ariana Grande, Charlie XCX and Kanye West. What adds to Cashmere Cat’s intrigue is his illusiveness with the press. Photos posted of himself usually feature a side profile of his face, the rest obscured by his long hair. Rarely does he do sit-down interviews, and his social media accounts don’t give away much in regards to his own opinions about the music he creates or aspires to create.

For Cashmere Cat, actions speak louder than words, which was apparent in his set.

He transformed the netherworld of Liquid with seamless waves of gorgeous bells, intricate drums and ingenuous synth to create an exclusively unique sound. His performance weaved between well-known beats like “Mirror Maru” and “Adore,” contrasted with improvised live mixes in an awesome display. Fans new and old of Cashmere Cat lost themselves, entranced by his prowess.

But the bumping EDM inevitably resulted in a few audience mishaps. A quarter of the way through his set, one patron threw a drink at the DJ from the front row, to which Cashmere Cat cut his music and left the stage. While some audience members may have delighted in the surprising ruckus, Cashmere Cat was likely displeased. After a moment, Cashmere Cat returned and continued his set without saying a word.

All in all, everyone in da club was getting tipsy. Bottles were popped, and who knows what substances were swapped and consumed in Liquid’s VIP section. It goes without saying — Cashmere Cat commanded the crowd. His next-level set reverberated off the neon bar, leather couches and sticky sweaty floor to create a night appreciative show-goers will never forget.
