The Associated Students of Madison Legislative Affairs Committee outlined changes to its campaign to register voters in a meeting Monday, the same day new voter ID laws went into effect.
The new laws require proof of residence for all those registering to vote.
In contrast to the previously used paper forms to register voters, ASM now plans to use laptops to register students, as the most common proof of residence for out of state students is located in the UW Student Center information section.
Committee Chair Morgan Rae said this could make voter registration of UW students a slightly more lengthy process but is important to follow in order to keep with Wisconsin law.
The committee also wrote policy drafts regarding aspects online voter registration and need-based financial aid.
The next Legislative Affairs Committee meeting will be held next Monday April 14 at 7 p.m.
