A 39-year-old Madison man is in custody after an apparent fratricide on the 1300 block of East Wilson Street Monday night.
The victim, a 33-year-old Madison resident, was shot outside of his residence around 7 p.m. last night and later declared dead at a local hospital. The suspect, whose name has not yet been released, has been tentatively charged with felony possession of a firearm, according to a Madison Police Department statement. The victim and the suspect are brothers.
The report said officers dispatched to the scene located the suspect and took him into custody. Police said the incident appeared to be targeted.
“There was obviously a dispute between the two brothers. Unfortunately some domestic disputes such as these can get very violent and, in this case, deadly,” MPD spokesperson Joel DeSpain said.
As of now, the only suspect being investigated is the victim’s brother, who was immediately taken into custody, DeSpain said.
A motive for the crime is not being released. The name of the suspect will be released pending the medical examiner’s identification of the victim.
“We’ve got the suspect in custody and are not looking for anyone else with regards to the crime, it was an isolated incident between the brothers. Because of a domestic dispute, unfortunately, one is now deceased and the other is in jail,” DeSpain said.
