A small fire occurred at Chamberlin Hall approximately 1:45 p.m., according to University of Wisconsin Police Department spokesperson Marc Lovicott.
The fire occurred in a small mechanical space with high voltage equipment, according to a report from the Madison Fire Department. The fire inflicted minor damage, the cost of which is estimated to be around $1,000, the report said.
Lovicott said the fire was put out before fire and police crews were even on the scene.
Fire crews ventilated smoke from the building before allowing students and staff to reenter, Lovicott said.
Lovicott added there were no injuries and UWPD is turning the investigation over to the Madison Fire Department. He said he did not know they cause of the fire, and city fire crews would now be looking into potential causes.
