Local police are investigating an armed robbery on Charter Street and Spring Street that occurred just before 9 a.m. Tuesday.
University of Wisconsin Police Department spokesperson Marc Lovicott said UWPD has completed the search around the area of the robbery and are continuing the search for the suspect in conjunction with Madison’s police department.
A 21-year-old was walking when he was approached by a stranger, according to an MPD report. The suspect, a 5’8″ hispanic male, approximately 30 years old, wearing a red hooded sweatshirt, jeans and carrying a black jacket, displayed a handgun and asked the victim to give up his money, the report said.
Lovicott said the suspect took off running shortly after the robbery. He said the robbery was reported immediately and UWPD was on the scene within minutes. UWPD is actively searching for the suspect, he said.
“We have officers out,” Lovicott said. “We have a k-9 out as well.”
