FIGHT
State Street
A 28-year-old Madison man was arrested Saturday on charges of battery on the 500 block of State Street. According to an MPD report, Chad McVay was harassing two women at a restaurant and then was confronted by their friend who told McVay to leave them alone.
Enraged, McVay struck the man, knocking out his tooth. Ald. Mike Verveer, District 4, said the incident is a “textbook example” of the most common type of alcohol related violence.
“The 500 block has had more activity in the past year, but downtown is still a very safe place overall,” said Verveer.
SHOTS FIRED
Theresa Terrace
A Madison male was arrested and a juvenile taken to the Juvenile Reception Center last Thursday for a weapons violation when reports came in of two shotgun blasts near Hammersley Road and Theresa Terrace.
According to the MPD report, 911 was called concerning a cluster of people fighting in the area.
Officers arrived on the scene and discovered the house that reported violence and gun shots originated. Officers arrested a 14- and 18-year-old in the house who had both fired the weapon into the brawl. According to the report, no one was hurt.
DRUG INVESTIGATION
Expo Inn
A drug investigation produced the arrests and citations of twelve individuals with more arrests likely on Nov. 8th at the Expo Inn Motel, 910 Ann Street. The South Police District coupled with the Dane County Narcotics and Gang Task Force has been investigating incidents of drug and prostitution activity for several weeks, according to an MPD report.
A group of police officers moved in on the property which has been known for drug related problems and deaths last Monday. They seized cocaine base and heroin along with $651 in cash.
RESISTING ARREST
King Street
A New Berlin man was arrested on charges of resisting a police officer and trespassing last week on the 100 block of King Street.
Mitchell J. Christianson refused to leave the foyer of the Great Dane Pub and was approached by officers and issued a citation, according to an MPD report.
According to the report, Christianson said he would not pay the citation, to which the officer responded by placing Christianson in hand cuffs. Christianson resisted and was promptly brought to the Dane County jail where he continued to resist directives, the report said. According to the report, alcohol was involved.
VIOLATION
East Johnson Street
A 19-year-old male with an outstanding warrant was arrested Nov. 8th when attempting to flee from police on the 1800 block of East Johnson Street.
An MPD report said that an officer was fueling his car when he noticed a vehicle with a loud muffler and a license plate which was not readily visible.
The driver of the vehicle was aware of catching the officer’s attention and quickly pulled over, fleeing the vehicle with others. The sergeant pursued the driver and after scaling an eight foot fence in the chase, caught up with and arrested the man for a probation violation.
SUSPICIOUS BEHAVIOR
E. Washington Ave
A Madison woman was arrested Nov. 8th on charges of resisting and obstructing a police officer after acting suspiciously in the 3100 block of East Washington Avenue.
According to an MPD report, 22-year-old Shaqouia L. Hoffmann ran into a nearby hotel when she sighted an East District officer.
The officer proceeded to investigate and when the woman exited the hotel, the officer and back-up confronted her. Hoffman claimed she was afraid of police according to the report, but was later discovered to have outstanding warrants, explaining her behavior.
