State Street: Weapons Violation
Madison Police responded to a call involving a death threat and knives Friday morning, an MPD report said.
According to the report, MPD arrested two men early Friday morning when they brandished knives and one threatened to kill the other after work. Both men were arrested without injury, the report said.
State Street: Robbery
Another MPD report said a man robbed Goodman’s Jewelers of a $26,000 Rolex watch Friday afternoon. After MPD officers nearby chased the suspect, he was arrested while he was attempting to escape in a vehicle. Police also arrested the vehicle’s driver and gave the watch back to Goodman’s.
Frances Street and University Avenue: Hit and Run
A UW student received non life-threatening injuries while he was crossing at University Avenue and Frances Street, another MPD report said. A silver sedan struck the 22-year-old, who was sent to the hospital that evening.
The report did not say the suspect has been found.
Mineral Point Road: Fraud
The Madison Police Department was contacted by a Club Foods clerk on Mineral Point Road on Oct. 17 concerning a fraud case where a caller claiming to work for MoneyGram was able to take out a $1,000 transaction.
An MPD report said the clerk reported that the caller wished to update the store’s MoneyGram computer and asked the clerk to make a $999 transaction to H&R Block in the computer’s “training mode.”
The crook was familiar with the software and, according to the report, had a Middle Eastern accent.
Winnebago Street: Teenage Attack
A 40-year-old Madison man was attacked by two teens while walking near the 2200 block of Winnebago Street after 7 p.m. Wednesday night.
The man, an MPD report said, came across a group of eight to 10 teens on the sidewalk when one asked for the time. Before the man could answer, one teen struck him on the head and another kicked him as he fell to the ground.
The assailants left the victim without asking for money or emptying the man’s pockets.
Woodvale Drive: Shots Fired
A 61-year-old local Woodvale Drive man contacted the MPD upon discovering a bullet hole in a window of his storage room on Oct. 19. A similar incident took place on Woodvale Drive on Oct. 5 and may be connected to the other shooting, according to the incident report.
According to MPD spokesperson Howard Payne, detectives are looking for more answers on whether the two took place at the same time.
“This is a scenario that the police could not get their finger on when it occurred,” Payne said.
Stoughton Road: Drunken Driver
A 27-year-old Madison man was arrested last week on charges of operating a vehicle with a blood alcohol content of .19.
According to an MPD report, an officer noticed the man swerving through three lanes of traffic without signaling and coming to a stop at a yellow light.
The officer stopped the vehicle, determined to be driven by Jonathan A. Hart.
After attempting to unbuckle a non-existent seat belt, Hart was told to perform field sobriety tests to which he failed, blowing a .19.
