Netflix followed in the footsteps of DC, PlayStation and Comic-Con Saturday at their virtual fan event announcing anticipated titles for the reminder of 2021 and 2022.
Netflix hosted a three-hour livestream event “TUDUM” this past weekend and included announcements for nearly 100 different upcoming series. Fans caught a glimpse of anticipated films and series through big announcements, first looks and even a few trailers.
Last week, Netflix claimed the title “The Home of True Crime” as they announced a number of upcoming true-crime documentaries, including a sequel to the pandemic hit “Tiger King.” During TUDUM, Netflix unveiled the first teaser for the sequel documentary and confirmed its Nov. 17 release date. Netflix also announced “Jeen-Yuhs,” a documentary following Kanye West’s illustrious career, set to release in 2022.
Fans reacted with intense excitement as Netflix revealed the first official footage for the much-anticipated television adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s revolutionary comic series “The Sandman.” Though short and vague, the teaser seemed incredibly promising. No release date was announced, but some expect the series to drop in early 2022.

The event featured footage from three upcoming films. There was new footage of the Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Reynolds and Gal Gadot in the spy-thriller “Red Notice,” which is set to drop on the streaming service Nov. 12.
An official trailer for “Army of Thieves,” a prequel to Zack Snyder’s “Army of the Dead” that was released earlier this year, was also revealed. The film details the character Dieter’s life of crime prior to the impending zombie apocalypse. The film will hit Netflix just in time for Halloween on Oct. 29.
More footage was shown of the star-studded Adam McKay dark comedy “Don’t Look Up.” The film focuses on two low-level astronomers — Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence — as they try to save the Earth from an approaching comet large enough to destroy the planet. The movie will hit theaters on Dec. 10 and release to Netflix on Christmas Eve.
Other reveals included footage of Netflix’s adaptation of the popular anime “Cowboy Bebop,” a new teaser for “Stranger Things 4″ and announcements of season renewals for “The Witcher” and “Sex Education.”
While this barely scratched the surface of what was revealed at Netflix’s first TUDUM event, suffice to say there is a lot to look forward to for the remainder of 2021 and 2022.
Though other streaming services have grabbed a hold of the industry, this event made it abundantly clear Netflix has no plans to fade into the background. The company has signed countless big names for upcoming projects and recently acquired the rights to the entirety of Roald Dahl’s story catalog.
All in all, keep an eye on Netflix because they have pop culture in the palm of their hands.
