Triathlon event drew over 2,500 participants

The Wisconsin Ironman took place in Madison on a sunny Sunday, September 10. State Street buzzed with energy from the hundreds of cheering fans and supporters of athletes.

Sunday’s race began with a 2.4 mile swim in chilly Lake Mendota, followed by a 112 mile bicycle course through hilly Dane County, and ended at Monona Terrace with a 26 mile marathon run.

The top three male professional finishers were Luke McKenzie (8:17:19) of Australia, Tj Tollakson (8:28:17), and Patrick McKeon (8:28:36). The top Madison-area male finisher was Blake Becker, who finished 12th overall (9:20:28).  Of the 2,503 athletes that competed on Sunday, 81 participants were first-time Ironman participants.
