Madison Police Department arrests primary suspect in East Side homicide

The primary suspect in a homicide was found hiding in a dumpster and arrested Wednesday afternoon.

A young woman was shot and killed in a parking lot at 6000 Cottage Grove Rd. around 8 p.m. Tuesday, she was taken to a hospital but did not survive.

According to a Madison Police Department incident report:

MPD identified Christopher O’Kroley as the primary suspect in the homicide and categorized him as armed and dangerous.

Around 1 p.m. Wednesday, a citizen spotted a man fitting O’Kroley’s description at a store in the East Towne Mall vicinity and called 911.

An MPD officer responded to the call minutes later and O’Kroley shot at him. The suspect ran and was found hiding in a dumpster.

O’Kroley was taken into custody and his handgun was recovered.
