The Madison Police Department helped a University of Wisconsin student Friday when a pants business deal went sour.

According to a MPD incident report, a 19-year-old student lost “stupidly expensive” designer jeans at the Five Guys on State Street.

The UW student advertised a pair of jeans on a Facebook asking for $100. A man claiming to be from Baraboo expressed interest in the pants and asked if the student had a second pair. He did and decided to sell two pairs for $200.

After meeting at 9:30 a.m. last Friday at Five Guys on State Street, the sale seemed to go without any snags. After receiving the money, the buyer “wasted no time in leaving the scene.”

Madison Police Department had a weird weekend

The student noticed a warning on the bills after the man left, stating “FOR MOTION PICTURE USE ONLY.”

The investigating officer said the bills looked convincing enough to deceive a casual observer. The officer collected the phony money as evidence.

In the end, the student was left pants-less and without profit.
