A healthy dose of contrasting elements is a key ingredient for good to music, and it’s something CLEAN ROOM seem to have down on their new EP Weird Woman.
Mixing sludgy, distorted guitars with smooth, blusy vocals is a surprisingly captivating combination. It forms a hard alt-rock sound that sounds fresh and familiar all at once.
Their music has a frenetic quality and they control it adeptly. Each song feels like it has the potential to go off the rails, but end up moving along seamlessly.
Songs like “Thrash the Night Away” capture this quality best. The stadium guitars and upbeat, punky drums make for a thrilling rock and roll joyride.
“Behind the Door,” too deserves a special mention. This track slows down and offers a psychedelic vibe. The result is something that’s both trippy and thrashy.
This is CLEAN ROOM’s third project now, and they’ve shown sure signs of growth. Let’s hope they keep it up.
