Madison waited months in anticipation for Zedd — one of the world’s most prominent music producers — to unleash his latest masterpiece The True Colors Tour Friday night.
Known for his dazzling sets and ear-worm tracks, Russian-German electro house DJ and music producer Anton Zaslavski, stage name Zedd, is a step far above the rest. His accomplishments are innumerable. He’s worked with the likes of Lady Gaga, Hayley Williams and Ariana Grande, and recently produced music for the feature film “Divergent.”

His True Colors performance on the isthmus, in turn, was the collective, finely-tuned result of years upon years of dedication and passion to his craft.
Alex Metric, the first opener, gave a warm welcome to early comers with his mixes. His stage was humble with low-key club lighting and served as a stepping stone to Dillon Francis.
Francis’ set was the usual display of thrashy, jarring tracks everyone loves, mostly from his latest album, This Mixtape is Fire. But he didn’t play with all guns out. All the shows he’s played in the recent past have allowed for autopilot.
That, coupled with opening for Zedd, made his show feel like a level-up from Alex Metric, but nowhere near competing with Zedd’s prowess. It’s Zedd’s tour and Francis, despite his amounting fame, knew he was in the passenger seat.
True Colors transformed the Alliant Energy Center into a completely different dimension. Zedd sailed from song to song seamlessly, leaving a trail of surreal color, confetti and flames in his wake. Every song was worthy of being the last, feeding the crowd energy that could have gone on for hours.
The utter elation and gratitude Zedd conveyed to the thousands in front of him was hypnotizing. Zedd fans were completely focused on the display before them, with every song laced with graphics, lights, smoke, flames, confetti and fireworks strewn throughout the show.

When the time for the encore came, no one in the crowd had an ounce of energy to ask him to come back out. The encore felt almost like a dated formality. He came back out on his own with a knowing smile. The crowd was both exhausted and dazzled, and proceeded to ramp up the excitement one last time.
Zedd was the huge headliner Madison needed over the Halloween weekend. The expectations for his True Colors Tour were surpassed infinitely, and why wouldn’t they? The world is witnessing Zedd in his self-made prime, and Madison was beyond lucky to pay homage to Zedd’s moving, otherworldly show.
