Police arrested two men in connection with a disturbance involving a handgun at an East Doty Street parking ramp early Sunday morning.

Jeremy Tiffany, 39, Mitchel Christen, 24 and an unnamed female were out at a downtown establishment around 2:45 a.m. when Tiffany and Christen began to argue about their bar tab and continued to fight as they entered the Government East parking ramp at 105 E. Doty St., according to a Madison Police Department report.

Tiffany allegedly displayed a handgun, although he did not point it at anyone, the report said.

Ald. Mike Verveer, District 4, said a security guard saw the disturbance and promptly called the police.

Both Tiffany and Christen were taken to the Dane County Jail on tentative disorderly conduct charges, and no one was injured in the incident, according to the MPD report. If Tiffany is convicted for disorderly conduct while armed, he could face a longer jail sentence.

While Verveer said the Doty Street parking ramp tends to have more fights than others, weapons are not generally an issue in the area.

“The most serious incidents in garages are occasional robberies or fights, but usually not involving weapons,” Verveer said.
