As the regular season winds down and teams fight for Big Ten Tournament positioning, the Wisconsin women’s basketball team (8-16, 4-10 Big Ten) hosts the No. 5 Maryland Terrapins (23-2, 14-0 Big Ten), who hope to continue their quest for conference play perfection and keep their 17-game win streak intact.

This will be Wisconsin’s second matchup against a top-five opponent, after they fell to then-No. 1 South Carolina 67-44 back on Nov. 27.

It will be the first game between the two schools as conference opponents.

Wisconsin

The Badgers have won just as many games at home as they have on the road in conference play this season (two each). Over their past four games at the Kohl Center, Wisconsin is winless and has given up at least 73 points to every opponent during the stretch. Meanwhile, Maryland’s offensive attack ranks fifth in the nation in scoring offense with 82.2 ppg.

The season-ending ACL injury to leading scorer Michala Johnson forced junior guard Tessa Cichy into the starting lineup back in December, and she has hit her stride as of late. In her past three games, Cichy has averaged 15 ppg and has been among the team leaders in both shot attempts and minutes played. The last time Cichy sat on the bench was Feb. 1, playing wire-to-wire through three straight 40-minute contests.

Maryland

The Terrapins don’t have one standout scorer, but they have a balanced scoring attack. Their leading scorer is sophomore guard Shatori Walker-Kimbrough with 14.0 points per game. She’s one of four starters with double-digit scoring averages and as a result, allows Maryland plenty of versatility and adaptability on the offensive end. Sophomore Lexie Brown presents a threat from the perimeter, converting 45 three-point field goals already this season. Senior center Brionna Jones leads Maryland inside the paint, and she’s converted an efficient 59 percent of her shots this season.

Maryland’s 17-game win streak has earned them the No. 5 ranking nationally, and they haven’t lost since Dec. 3. Since then, the Terrapins have scored less than 20 points only once, at Nebraska in a 59-47 victory.
