Having read and seen many interviews in the local press with new University of Wisconsin Chancellor Rebecca Blank (including the one in The Badger Herald) over the last couple of weeks, I’ve yet to hear anyone ask her this question: “What exactly does the Chancellor of UW do that warrants a salary of nearly a half million dollars per year (to say nothing of a free mansion in University Heights, a free car and every benefit under the sun)”?
It’s a pretty nifty feat to land a job that pays considerably more than that of your former boss, in Dr. Blank’s case, the President of the United States. Apart from the salaries and bonuses lavished on Wall Street plutocrats, the compensation of college administrators is surely the most egregiously excessive in the country.
