A garbage truck started a fire on Lake Street around 11:45 a.m. Monday morning and pulled into a nearby parking lot.
The Madison Fire Department closed the area surrounding the parking lot and quickly put out the fire, Cynthia Schuster, MFD spokesperson, said.
Schuster said the fire department is unsure what the cause of the fire was, but has cleaned up garbage that was emptied in the parking lot. After the initial clean up was complete, the northbound lane of Lake Street was reopened.
