After months of hunger and anticipation, students were finally able to visit the new Wendy’s on State Street in its grand opening Monday.
Wendy’s Manager Vincent Delorenzo said he is optimistic the restaurant will do well, especially late at night. He said the restaurant received a large lunch crowd filled with students, and anticipated a large dinner crowd as well.
The restaurant remained crowded for the dinner shift, with lines for Frostees and square burgers occasionally forming out the door.
Delorenzo said since Wendy’s is located conveniently close to where students have class, the lunchtime rush will probably be one of the busiest times for the restaurant.
Wendy’s employee Jamie Alderman, who was dressed up as the chain’s namesake, said people arrived as soon as doors opened at 10 a.m. She said people were even anxious enough to stop by the restaurant yesterday to see if they had opened a day early.
Alderman said she expects Wendy’s will do well with late night diners, especially after bar time, as the restaurant is open until 2 a.m. on weeknights and 3 a.m. on the weekends. She added that she thinks Wendy’s will also have an advantage over other restaurants of choice that may not be open as late in the area.
