Reddit cofounder Alexis Ohanian and filmmaker Oliver Stone are among the Distinguished Lecture Series speakers who will be on campus this spring, the Wisconsin Union Directorate announced today.
The series will begin on Feb. 12 with a lecture from award-winning theoretical physicist Laurence Krauss followed by the Reddit cofounder on Feb. 20.
Ohanian, who will appear on February 20, began social enterprise Breadpig after helping found Reddit. He also helped found travel site Hipmunk. Ohanian remains on the board at Reddit and acts as an advisor and investor at Hipmunk.
Krauss is a consistent contributor to the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal, as well as the author of the book “The Physics of Star Trek.” Tickets are not required for this event.
Other lecturers include Cheryl Strayed, advice columnist and author of “Wild” on March 5, Alice Waters, founder of Slow Foods USA, on March 27 and the Wisconsin Festival of Ideas on April 19.
Stone and professor Peter Kuznick will finish the series on April 24. Stone’s work includes popular films such as “JFK,” “Natural Born Killers” and “Nixon.”
All lectures besides the Festival of Ideas will be held at 7:30 p.m. at Varsity Hall in Union South.
