Man on bicycle hit by scooter on East Campus Mall

A bicyclist and scooter collided on Tuesday morning on the 300 block of East Campus Mall, according to Madison Police Department spokesperson Joel DeSpain.

The bicyclist was in the bike lane on University Avenue heading towards the capital when a college-aged woman on a scooter turned into the campus mall area, crashing into him, DeSpain said.

A 911 call was placed at 11:11 a.m. and paramedics and the Madison Fire Department arrived at the scene near East Campus Mall, he said.

The bicyclist, a man in his fifties, was bruised and taken to the hospital however no serious injuries were reported, DeSpain said. The bicyclist was wearing a helmet, he said.

The scooterist will likely be cited for an improper turn, DeSpain said.
