One of the freshest trends in electronic music is the sickeningly sweet bubblegum pop — distorted mechanically until it becomes something entirely different, yet still danceable.
The London-based music label PC Music stands precariously on the line between bad taste and and fun with their girly-voiced acts like Hannah Diamond and GFOTY (Girlfriend of the Year), whose songs sound like a 14-year old singing into her laptop while surfing Facebook. Still, the tracks are so immaculately produced that it becomes obvious there exists more than meets the ear.
Up-and-coming music producer SOPHIE blends dirty and tweaked beats with cheeky female vocals to create some of the craziest dance music of 2015. Other songs like Kygo’s genius remix of Marvin Gaye’s “Sexual Healing” balance the playlist with a more standard approach to electronica — the result is stunning. This is the electronic music of mid-decade in a nutshell. Go wild!
