On first listen, the French electronic group Air's newly released Pocket Symphony already feels familiar.
The album is instantly palatable, following directly in the footsteps of the enormously successful Talkie Walkie, which was released in 2004 and went on to sell over 800,000 albums. Talkie Walkie featured a mix of pop melodies and calm washes of sound that perfectly accompanies a sleepy afternoon at the library.
Although less poppy and more hypnotic, it's easy to imagine Pocket Symphony filling the same role. This album is perfect reading music, and would meld perfectly into the background at Espresso Royale. Whether or not this is a good thing depends on what you're looking for in an album.
