Marty waxes Hell’s Angels like a champ. At the Paradise Lounge (119 W. Main St.), the bearded bartender chooses to work only one night a week at the Capitol Square establishment — rumor has it that he runs the Wisco the other nights of the week.
So why does a member of one bar’s senior leadership take a pay cut to sling whiskey to a bunch of punk college kids? Because it’s Tuesday night at the ‘Dise.
There are two drink specials Tuesday nights that draw the bar’s largest crowd. Either some form of bottled Berghoff or bottom, bottom, bottom shelf rails, both are $1.50. It’s $1.50 for a strong-as-Marty’s-breath mixed drink — no wonder the kids show up in droves.
The ‘Dise has become a Tuesday night staple for those more inclined to chat about the White Stripes rather than Wisco hoops. That said, the jukebox is always stuffed with requests for the Pixies, AC/DC, Beastie Boys and even, hush, The Strokes.

Step back a couple nights to that day of rest, and you got yourself a grand little special at the Great Dane (123 E. Doty St.). Known by many as the bar that serves great food, 10-pound drinks and whack music, Sunday is the day leisure sports become the focus. For those looking to not get canned to start the week but still crave a little bar atmosphere, this is the day to chill in the oak-lined basement.
All one has to say is, no quarters required. The darts and pool are free and have recently spurred some pretty fierce competition for the gambling types. The great thing about the cavernous lower level is that the booths are never full, which allows one to catch up a bit on that Monday morning assignment between shots (of Jameson or of the cue ball, your choice) — studying at the Dane is no joke, and the artichoke dip certainly fills that midnight hunger.
