UNIVERSITY AVENUE
Battery
A 28-year-old Seattle, Wash., man was arrested at Brothers Bar on University Avenue following a brawl where he knocked a man unconscious, a Madison Police Department report said.
On the evening of Feb. 5, police arrested William Eller for substantial battery after the victim was taken to a local hospital. MPD said Eller reportedly kicked the victim in the head several times until he fell unconscious.
Eller said he acted in self-defense. The MPD report said video surveillance and witness accounts proved this to be false.
WILLIAMSON STREET
Burglary
Police arrested a 19-year-old Madison man Thursday for a previous burglary police said may be associated with a pattern of 25 burglaries at local businesses throughout the last several months.
An MPD report said Bennie Fleming was charged with a Dec. 15 break-in at Bonjour Beads where he allegedly broke a front door window and stole a cash register.
MPD spokesperson Joel DeSpain said it is possible he could be connected to many of the 25 pattern-burglary crimes that police have identified. He said MPD is still investigating the burglaries.
NORTH HENRY STREET
Theft from an auto
A 55-year-old Madison man was arrested for possession of stolen property Thursday after police tracked and identified a number of stolen items, an MPD report said.
Police began investigating Eton Bentley Jan. 26 after a witness said he saw Bentley going through a vehicle and followed him until police arrived, an MPD report said.
The witness hit the panic alarm on his car keys, causing the suspect to flee, DeSpain said. The witness followed Bentley on foot and called 911. Upon arrival, police discovered a number of stolen items in Bentley’s possession.
“We see [witnesses tracking suspects] quite frequently, and we applaud those efforts,” DeSpain said. “We want people to stay safe and not get too close in case the person is armed or high on drugs.”
VARIOUS LOCATIONS
Arrested Person
MPD arrested a 33-year-old Mt. Horeb man Friday for a probation violation revealing his involvement in seven different crimes.
Police cited Daniel Starnes as a suspect in three purse robberies, a theft from an auto and a residential and business burglary after linking evidence from the different crimes.
DeSpain said the investigation is still ongoing and detectives continue to speak with a 25-year-old female accomplice to gain more insight.
TEMKIN AVENUE
Residential Burglaries
After being arrested for an Illinois parole violation Thursday, a 38-year-old man is a prime suspect in six or more burglaries on the city’s west side.
A police report said Harry Lucas of Madison is tied to the burglaries, which have all occurred near Temkin Avenue throughout the past couple of months.
DeSpain said Lucas is currently under investigation for the crimes. However, Lucas has only been charged with breaking a parole violation for leaving Illinois.
