Current Madison Mayor Paul Soglin announced Tuesday he will possibly run for governor and give a formal announcement early next year, the Cap Times reports.
Soglin told the Cap Times he wants the city budget to be formalized and integrated in early November. He has worked for the city of Madison since 1973 and was re-elected as mayor in 2011 and 2015, with his current term ending in 2019.
Additionally, Soglin has expressed opposition towards Gov. Scott Walker, the likely Republican candidate, and other Republicans he believes over-intervene in city decisions.
Soglin will likely rely on his experience as mayor as well as his work in the private sector to sell his campaign, according to the Cap Times.
Soglin expects to be asked about his decision to enter the race but will not comment on it until early 2018.
