UW-Madison was re-certified Feb. 21 by the National Collegiate Athletic Association.
UW was one of 11 Division I schools to be re-certified. Arizona State University and the University of Georgia were also among schools receiving certification.
Certification signifies the schools’ athletics programs conform to rules and principles adopted by Division I membership.
All 321 Division I members that are active division members participate in the certification process.
The purpose of the certification is to ensure integrity in the institution’s athletic program and to assist institutions in improving their athletics departments. Legislation mandating athletics certification was adopted in 1993.
The process includes a review of commitment to rules compliance, academic integrity, fiscal integrity and commitment to equity.
