After a 124-minute rain delay, Ohio State junior Nycole Koyano greeted UW pitcher Eden Brock with a line drive down the first base line for a leadoff double. She came around to score on a single by junior Megan Schwab two batters later, and unfortunately for Brock and the Badgers, the misfortunes did not stop until a Buckeye win was in the books, as Brock had trouble getting outs all afternoon, giving up hits in every inning except one and surrendering 10 runs, all earned, in seven innings pitched.

While the second inning marked the only inning in which Brock did not give up a hit, in that inning, Brock surrendered two knocks that could have gone for extra bases if not for extraordinary defensive efforts by Wisconsin outfielders Sam Polito and Katie Hnatyk.

To lead off the second, Ohio State senior Billie Jo Carder smacked a Brock offering on a line to right-center field. The hit had extra bases written all over it, but Polito charged to her left to snag Carder's drive, register the putout and bail out Brock.

The next Ohio State batter to get robbed of extra bases was the very next hitter, centerfielder Chelsea Baker, who hit a shot to right-center field that also went for a lineout as sophomore right fielder Katie Hnatyk got a great jump on the play, exploding to her right to nab what would have been a sure double for the Buckeyes.

After escaping damage in the third inning, Brock faltered again in the fourth and fifth innings, giving up seven combined runs in the two frames that ensured an Ohio State victory.

Brock then gave up two additional earned runs in the seventh inning to cap the scoring at 10 for Ohio State. In total, she gave up 14 hits Sunday, as well as 12 hits and a walk-off home run Saturday. Despite surrendering 26 hits and recording losses in two consecutive days, Brock said that she has gained confidence as of late. She claimed that she was unaware she had given up 20-something hits the past two days.

Wisconsin was solidly behind pitcher Eden Brock after Sunday's game.

"Eden did great," said UW head coach Chandelle Schulte. "They had two hard hits, 14 hits [in total]. … Most of them were bloop hits that we could have helped her out on, so I think she's done a great job."

Defensive mistakes were surely committed by the Badgers against Ohio State, and statistics are often times misleading. However, though the blame cannot be squared on the shoulders of one player in a team sport, it was a rough day for Eden Brock in the pitching circle, as Ohio State's two hits per inning — on average — might indicate.
