Dear Students,
As Mayor and Police Chief we would like to welcome you back to Madison for the fall semester. We hope you had a great summer and that you’re looking forward to a productive and enjoyable school year. For those of you who are new to campus and the city, welcome. We are confident that your time here will be some of the best in your life. We are truly lucky to live in a community as safe and vibrant as Madison.
As you all get settled in, we want to mention a few things that you should keep in mind this year. First and foremost, there is no one in a better position to keep you safe than you. By putting yourself in safe environments, keeping an eye on your friends, and being aware of your surroundings, you help make this community a better place for us all. On a daily basis, you will face decisions which can affect the rest of your life, either in a good or incredibly negative way. There is little doubt you will be exposed to a number of opportunities to drink alcohol. We ask that you make some mature choices on this issue as well.
Whether you are watching Badger football at Camp Randall, taking a stroll down Lakeshore Path, or grabbing a bite to eat on State Street, remember to have fun, be responsible, and most of all, stay safe. If you do that, we have no doubt this will be another great school year.
