A college-aged woman was sexually assaulted walking near the intersection of Langdon Street and Frances Street early Sunday morning.
The victim was walking down Langdon Street at 2:55 a.m. when she noticed the suspect, a white male in his 20s, was following her down the street, a Madison Police Department statement said. The victim asked the suspect why he was following her, the statement said.
The suspect pushed the victim on the ground, grabbed her head and forced it on the ground, the statement said. The victim then kicked the suspect in the head and the suspect fled, the statement said.
MPD Sgt. Phil Moore said he does not know if the victim, described as a college-aged female, was a University of Wisconsin student. He said reports do not indicate if alcohol was involved or whether the suspect or the victim were injured. He said he believes the suspect was a stranger to the victim.
Another woman was the victim of sexual assault by a stranger two weeks prior on the weekend of Sept. 6 while walking down the 100 block of Langdon Street, one block away from the incident Sunday morning. The suspect in that assault was also described as a white male in his 20s. Moore said while police do not know if these two incidents are connected, it is still a possibility.
“I wouldn’t rule it out,” Moore said.
Moore said detectives are investigating the incident, and MPD will put out more information when they find out if the sexual assaults are connected or not.
A timely warning issued by the University of Wisconsin Police Department said the department is working with MPD on the investigation, as well as other near campus area crimes.
