The Madison Police Department is investigating a shooting that took place early Friday morning which left three injured on the 1800 block of South Park Street.
The victims all sustained injuries that were not life-threatening and
were taken to University of Wisconsin Hospital, said MPD spokesperson
Joel DeSpain. Some injuries were the result of gunshots and others were
the result of flying shards of glass.
There are no suspects, DeSpain said.
The shooting occurred on the same block as R’ Place, a bar the City of Madison has tried to shut down. DeSpain had no comment on if the bar had any connection to the shooting.
DeSpain said while the investigation is still in the early stages, police believe the victims were targets, and the shooting was not random. He had no comment on why investigators felt this way.
It appeared the victims were in or near a red SUV that was parked on the 1800 block of South Park Street, according to an MPD report.
Despain said police and investigators are looking for witnesses and are still collecting information. Those who think they might be able to contribute to the investigation should call Madison Area Crime Stoppers at 266-6014.
