Funeral arrangements for a University of Wisconsin student killed in a car accident this week have been finalized, UW officials announced Thursday.
Visitation for 21-year-old Dylan Ellefson will be held today from 5-8 p.m. at Cress Funeral Home in Sun Prairie, a statement released by UW said. Following visitation, time will be allowed for Ellefson’s friends and family to share memories and stories.
Funeral services will also be held in Sun Prairie at St. Albert the Great Catholic Church on Saturday, Oct. 30 at 11 a.m. Prior to the service, visitation will be held from 9-11 a.m.
Plans for an on-campus memorial in Ellefson’s memory have yet to be finalized, UW spokesperson John Lucas said in an e-mail to The Badger Herald.
Remembered by his friends and roommates as a genuinely good person who strove to help others, the campus community continues to mourn the loss.
UW senior Maggie Jaszewski said she will remember everything about Ellefson, but especially his willingness to help others.
“He was really into helping people that didn’t have as much of a support network as he did,” Jaszewski said.
The loss of Ellefson will be felt far and wide at UW, Dean of Students Lori Berquam said, especially because of the many things Ellefson did to help others.
“He wanted to teach the youth. He studied abroad in Madrid. He did many things in his short lifetime to create an impact on our campus,” Berquam said.
Ellefson died Sunday, Oct. 24 when he was struck by another car on the 1400 block of East Johnson Street, the incident report said.
According to the report, a 19-year-old woman struck Ellefson with her vehicle after the car ahead of her made a sudden lane change. Ellefson was experiencing car problems and pulled over in the right outbound traffic lane on East Johnson Street before the accident occurred.
According to the Dane County Coroner’s office, Ellefson sustained severe head injuries in the crash, resulting in his death.
The crash remains under investigation by Madison Police, Wisconsin State Patrol and the Dane County Coroner’s office.
Police have not made any arrests or written any citations in connection with the accident, the incident report said.
