A fire began at the Engineering Research building around 8:15 p.m. today, causing approximately $20,000 in damage to a small office.
“We got the initial alarm at 8:14 p.m.,” said Eric Dahl, Madison Fire Department public information officer. “They arrived on the scene four minutes later, at 8:18 p.m.”
When firefighters entered the building, they discovered the fire in the office with the door closed, containing the smoke and heat within the office. After a full fire response was dispatched to assist the engine, firefighters put out the flames with a small amount of water and removed the smoke using fans.
“They were there at most an hour, around 45 minutes on the scene,” Dahl said.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation and a MFD investigator is assisting the University of Wisconsin Police Department to find the origin of the fire.
