A flyer noting “IT’S OKAY TO BE WHITE” was found taped to a pillar in front of Bascom Hill this past week, making the University of Wisconsin one of the latest college campuses to be part of the growing trend.

Bascom’s building manager was notified in the morning, and the flyer was removed by staff because it violated UW policy, UW spokesperson Meredith McGlone said.

The policy states that no one may post notices, posters or pictures on university buildings or on surfaces that are not a established bulletin board.

“We work to enforce this policy consistently, without regard to the content of the posters,” McGlone said.

The posting of the flyer comes a few days after the release of UW’s campus climate results, which found minority students reported a less positive experience on campus compared to their majority peers.

Similar flyers have been reported on other university campuses, including Tulane University.
