Twenty-six total E. coli cases

An additional four cases of E. coli were reported to University Services Thursday, bringing the total of reported cases to 26. As some of the victims of the recent E. coli incident may have already recovered, the number of cases may go well beyond 26. So far there have been 11 confirmed cases of the bacterium.

The cases stem from a pancake tailgate event held at the UW Stock Pavilion before the Oct. 6 Wisconsin vs. Indiana football game. One UW student remains hospitalized in good condition at University Hospital.

E. coli symptoms include diarrhea or bloody diarrhea and severe abdominal cramps. The symptoms normally occur within 3-8 days of the infection.

Students with questions regarding medical expenses, lost class time or any other E. coli-related issues are encouraged to call the Dean of Students’ office at 263-5702.
