Dotty’s closed for good

Dotty Dumpling’s Dowry, 116 N. Fairchild St., is officially closed after about 27 years of operation.

Madison’s famous burger joint was closed due to plans for the city’s $100 million Overture Project, which will create a new arts district.
Dotty’s owner, Jeff Stanley, fought the city for more operation time and proper compensation for his restaurant, but the city could not offer him any more time because of construction plans.

Stanley was disappointed, but celebrated with many patrons and employees during the last week of operation.
He rolled back prices to the 1974 menu, when his establishment was first opened.

The city has offered Stanley different sums of money to find a new location for his restaurant and for possible moving fees.
Stanley is currently looking at locations in Verona and even Milwaukee, but would like to remain in downtown Madison.
