Last week, President Barack Hussein Obama stopped by Turkey to clarify one thing – the U.S. is not at war with Islam! He also said that he is committed to creating a Palestinian state, which is a major source of tension between the West and the Muslim world.
The president is clearly trying to smooth over relations with Arab countries, but how will Muslims respond to his gestures? And what do Americans think about the administrations fresh approach? Lastly, what kind of role are Millennials playing in shaping the administration’s foreign policy?
I just posted this video on CNN’s i report and some viewers expressed concern about Iran’s decision to arrest American Journalist, Roxana Saberi, and rightfully so. However, we need to be careful not to associate the Iranian government’s actions with the views of ordinary Muslims. To begin, Shia Islam, the official denomination of Iran, is a minority sect in the Muslim World. Furthermore, many Iranians disagree with their own government. Lastly, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is a very controversial figure in the Islamic World, so we should not view his government’s actions as representative of all Muslims.
However, I’m glad people brought this up because it raises some important questions that we explore in our video…will President Obama be able to change Americans’ views of Muslims and vice a versa? Let me know what you think!
