NFL Preview: Week 6

Seahawks at Bears

The Bears are 4-1, coming off a win over the Panthers. The Seahawks, on the other hand, are 2-2 and fresh out of their bye week. Jay Cutler returns this week, which is encouraging for the Bears. Look for Forte to find holes in the Seahawks 29th-ranked rush defense and the opportunistic Bears defense to thrive against the statistically weak Seattle offense.

Dolphins at Packers

Head coach Mike McCarthy has not established Aaron Rodgers’ status for the upcoming game. If he doesn’t play, Matt Flynn will get the starting nod. The Dolphins are 2-2 and coming off a bye week. Regardless of whether Rodgers plays, I expect the Packers to come out with a chip on their shoulder after the tough loss last week and beat the Dolphins in a close, exciting game.

Lions at Giants

Detroit finally got its first win of the season after pummeling Sam Bradford and the Rams 44-6. The Giants made a statement last week by beating the Texans 34-10 in Houston. It will be interesting to see how the Lions’ passing attack (sixth best in the NFL in total yards) fares against the top ranked pass defense in the NFL. I give the edge to the Giants in their swanky new stadium.

Cowboys at Vikings

The Vikings are desperate for a victory after a disappointing loss to the Jets on Monday Night Football, falling to a surprising 1-3. The Cowboys are also 1-3 and are hardly living up to their billing as a Super Bowl contender. Randy Moss will shine in his return to his old stomping grounds.

Chargers at Rams

Losing receiver Mark Clayton will lower the Rams’ offensive success. That, coupled with the fact that the Chargers are very talented yet have underachieved this season and are coming off of an embarrassing loss to the Raiders, doesn’t look encouraging for the Rams. The Chargers will re-establish themselves as contenders by winning big.

Ravens at Patriots

This will probably be a low-scoring, tough game. The Patriots will need to keep winning if they hope to keep pace with the Jets. The Ravens also need to win to stay ahead of the Steelers in the AFC North. A tough defense and a big day for Ray Rice win it for the Ravens.

Saints at Buccaneers

New Orleans fans are still shaking their heads after a stunning loss to the Cardinals. Meanwhile, the Buccaneers are excited after stealing a game from Carson Palmer and the Bengals. Drew Brees will redeem himself after a lackluster performance in Glendale, leading his team to a much-needed win.

Saints 28 Bucs 16

Falcons at Eagles

The Falcons are flying high with a 4-1 record, the best in the NFC. They also have given up only 70 points this season, which is second best in the NFC to Minnesota’s 67. The Eagles may or may not have Michael Vick for this game. Matt Ryan’s calmness and poise will allow the Falcons to win.

Falcons 24, Eagles 21

Browns at Steelers

It seems likely that rookie Colt McCoy will start at quarterback for the struggling Browns. The Steelers, meanwhile, welcome back Ben Roethlisberger. Enough said.

Steelers 35, Browns 7

Chiefs at Texans

This is an intriguing matchup. The Chiefs could bounce back from their first loss of the season to the Colts, and the Texans will be eager to restore themselves after getting pummeled by the Giants. Kansas City has a weak pass defense, which will be their undoing against Matt Schaub and Andre Johnson.

Texans 27, Chiefs 17

Raiders at 49ers

It’s hard to believe that the winless 49ers could defeat a team that is fresh off a victory over the Chargers. The Raiders aren’t a superb team, but they have certainly moved up in the NFL world. However, I think the 49ers will get their first win in this game.

49ers 16, Raiders 7

Jets at Broncos

The Jets are somehow living up to all of their self-induced hype, which is somewhat surprising. Mark Sanchez has been up and down, but he is fortunate to have one of the best defenses in the NFL backing him up. It’s too early to evaluate the Broncos as a team, but the Jets will take this one.

Jets 20, Broncos 6

Colts at Redskins

Another interesting matchup. Manning should be able to dissect Washington’s pass defense, which is ranked 30th. However, they can’t underestimate Donovan McNabb, and Mike Shanahan has already made major improvements in Washington. Manning will do what it takes to win this game.

Colts 23, Redskins 17

Titans at Jaguars

It’s worth noting that the Titans just beat the Cowboys, but the Cowboys are only 1-3 at this point and may be grossly overrated. The Jaguars are somewhat of an enigma. They are 3-2, with a win over the Colts–yes, that’s not a typo, the Colts–but also blowout losses to the Eagles and the Chargers. When in doubt, I’ll bet on Chris Johnson pulling through.

Titans 30, Jaguars 21
