After all the hype and buildup, the Wisconsin men’s hockey team finally takes the outdoor ice in the Camp Randall Hockey Classic.
In the campus’ first ever outdoor hockey game, the Badgers will get a chance to avenge an earlier loss to the Michigan Wolverines. UW fell 3-2 at Yost Ice Arena back on Nov. 28 in the College Hockey Showcase.
Since then, the Badgers have lost just two more games, and today sit at 15-7-4 and No. 3 in the nation. Michigan is ranked 20th in the USCHO poll and has a 16-12-1 after a road win at Bowling Green Thursday night.
Around 53,000 advance tickets were sold, and with good weather, there’s a good chance they sell a few thousand walk-up tickets. Attendance won’t come near the 74,000+ they had in the “Cold War” game between Michigan and Michigan State back in 2001, but any time you have over 50,000 people at a hockey game, it’s sure to be quite the event.
