In photos: Memorial Union’s first floor is back and better than ever

Der Rathskeller will begin serving food in January

Say goodbye to caution tape and locked doors: At long last, the Memorial Union’s first floor has reopened.

The renovated space features cozy study spaces as well as fresh looks for old favorites including Daily Scoop, Peet’s Coffee & Tea, and a largely expanded Badger Market.

Ice cream lovers will delight in the expanded Daily Scoop’s bright, retro design, as well as the new “Freshman 15” menu item, a 15-scoop sundae meant to be shared with friends in celebration of memories made at the Union.

Peet’s Coffee & Tea has returned with a contemporary look and cozy study spaces, including a bar looking over the future Alumni Park.

Badger Market has also significantly expanded, and will now offer more grab-and-go food options as well as Badger apparel.

Throughout the first floor, visitors will find ample seating and study space, including fancy single-occupant pods, perfect for hunkering down for finals.
