Last Comic Standing finalists bust guts with contest-winning comedy at Orpheum

Vaginas, relaxed strains of weed, drunk cereal, no topic was off-limits at Tuesday night’s show

The top five finalists of NBC’s Last Comic Standing graced the Orpheum with their gut-busting humor Tuesday night. From tales of muggings and drunken stupors to unicorns and trailer parks, the night was full of fresh comedic energy.

Ian: The heckler

Ian Bagg led the comedy charge, breaking in the audience with his raunchy and interactive humor. No race, age, gender or sexuality in the audience was safe from Bagg’s brand of jokes, which fed off of audience reactions. His sharp wit and quick responses may have made some uncomfortable, but most were laughing along with him (maybe in hope of not becoming the next punchline). Besides the attacks on the audience, his other jokes centered around finger-banging, pregnancy and various other vagina one-liners.

Dominique: The weed-smoker

Next up was Dominique. She brought an honest performance chock full of good vibes and quality weed humor. Her set was centered around aging and all the limitations that come with it. These included quips about not being able to wear high heels to avoid potentially life-threatening falls, smoking a more relaxed strain of pot and the double-standards of aging women versus aging men.

Andy: The quirky girl

The night took a turn toward the awkward with Andy Erikson’s wild and quirky comedy. She filled her set with dancing that looked like your typical drunk aunt at a wedding and self-deprecating jokes that set herself up as the punchline. Erikson made the large venue feel intimate and even one-on-one at times. She was the queen of positivity, quirkiness and awkward charm for the night.

Michael: The Millennial

Michael Palascak delivered a relatable performance based around traveling, long-distance relationships and being broke, a classic refrain for students. The highlight of his set came from his description of being mugged in Chicago and the disrespect of the mugger not stealing his stuff. He told his stories with ease, perfect timing and brought millennial-centric comedy to the youth in the audience that was both subtle and witty.

Clayton: The seasoned comedy vet

Clayton English proved he is worthy of the Last Comic Standing crown by closing the night with punchlines that brought fits of uproarious laughter to the audience. He used impassioned gesticulations and full-body movements to add a visual element. He used his comedic flare to jazz up some bits of sage-like advice. His best advice of the night: Make cereal when you come home after a night of binge drinking. His reasoning: No one has made it onto the news for burning down their house from making a bowl of Frosted Flakes.
