Timetable 2002 a slow read

Spring 2002 Timetable, the highly anticipated sequel to Fall 2001 Timetable, is chock full of timely information, albeit in a largely illegible format.

Readers should be forewarned: Those without an inherent interest in the next semester’s class schedule may tire quickly of Timetable. Written and published by the Office of the Registrar, the university staff’s prose hardly qualifies as lucid enough to maintain the average consumer’s interest. Disinterested readers will likely stumble over vocab-heavy sentences such as “Retroactive credits do not advance a student’s registration priority?.”

Even long-time Timetable readers may find Spring 2002 Timetable difficult to decipher. The well-researched content is poorly presented to even the most veteran readers.

While Spring 2002 Timetable is full of disappointments, the chapter on Comparative Literature, especially the section entitled “Spring Term 2002 Touchtone Enrollment Instructions” is Timetable’s most gripping portion, giving must-have information about how to best utilize the information. Why the authors decided to bury the useful passage is one of Timetable’s great mysteries.

Spring Timetable 2002 also includes a nifty graphic of the UW campus. Although it would be ill-advised for anyone to use the map for directions, it’s a welcome treat to languished book reviewers upon completion of Timetable.
