>Sophomore Simon Bairu recorded an automatic NCAA qualifying time in the 10,000 meters to lead the Wisconsin men’s track and field distance runners at the Stanford Invitational recently.
Bairu finished second in the fastest section of the 10,000 meters in 28:28.69, which is the second fastest time ever run by a UW athlete. Junior Tim Keller finished 10th overall and seventh among collegians with a provisional qualifying mark of 29:09.93. Freshman Tim Nelson also had a provisional time of 29:11.33 to finish 13th overall.
In section two of the 10,000 meters, senior Joe Eckerly finished 23rd in 30:15.98.
In other events, senior Drew Hohensee finished 28th in the 3000-meter steeplechase in 9:16.03, while redshirt freshman Codie See was 33rd in 9:22.08. In the 800 meters, sophomore Ben Gregory finished 33rd in 1:53.62.
