UW senior swimmer Bethany Pendleton made waves at the 2004 Big Ten Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships, winning individual titles in both the 200- and 400-yard individual medleys, and her accomplishments will soon gain national exposure. Pendleton will be featured in this week’s issue of Sports Illustrated magazine in its Faces in the Crowd section.
Pendleton’s mark in the 400-yard individual medley set a new conference record by nearly three seconds, breaking the previous record that had stood for 11 years.
For her efforts, Pendleton was named Big Ten Swimmer of the Meet and Big Ten Swimmer of the Year.
