On Friday, Sept. 20, the Obama Administration made history and fought back against our nation’s largest source of carbon pollution: power plants. His administration’s rule to limit carbon pollution from power plants will reduce the effects of this global warming pollutant in Wisconsin, which we saw in this past summer’s severe floods and the harsh drought the summer before.
Scientists warn that without the reduction of this carbon pollution, the global warming-fueled extreme weather would not only get more frequent, but also more severe. It’s a good thing President Obama has acted to stop this.
According to a report from the Wisconsin Environment Research & Policy Center, Wisconsin ranks 19th in the nation for the share of its carbon pollution that comes from power plants. Wisconsinites do not want to be subjected to these harsh floods or long draughts. We want to protect ourselves and future generations from extreme weather and the carbon pollution from power pants.
Therefore, I call on Wisconsin’s decision-makers to support President Obama’s carbon pollution limits and in doing so, protect this state we call home.
