The Wisconsin men’s soccer team outshot the University of Wisconsin?Green Bay 20-8, but the Badgers gave up the game’s lone goal at the 95th minute in the sudden-death overtime period to lose to the Phoenix 1-0 Wednesday night at UW-GB’s Phoenix Field.

“I thought, for large parts of the game, we clearly outplayed them,” Wisconsin head coach Jeff Rohrman said. “But when we needed to put the ball in the net, we were not as sharp as we needed to be.

“We created some very good scoring chances, but we’ve got to start finishing those opportunities.”

After two scoreless periods, UW-GB’s Adam Ben-Zikri one-timed the ball past Wisconsin keeper Eric Hanson after receiving a goal line cross from teammate Kyle Sillars.

In the net, Hanson picked up two saves for Wisconsin, while UW-GB goalkeeper Pat Czuprynski collected six saves.

“We’re going to concentrate on rebounding from this extremely difficult and tough loss for Friday’s game,” Rohrman said, “I fully expect the leaders on this team to get the team back on track and lead us in the right direction.”

Looking to improve the team’s 5-2 record, Wisconsin welcomes Eastern Illinois to the McClimon Soccer Complex this Friday, Sept. 20, at 7:30 p.m. The Badgers last played the Panthers in 1996 and currently lead the series 4-2.

The game will be Wisconsin’s only home game in a five-week span since the Badgers swept the Rocky Rococo Soccer Classic. The Badgers won’t return home again until Sunday, Oct. 6, when Wisconsin will face Big Ten opponent Penn State. The Badgers kick off conference competition on the road against Ohio State Friday, Sept. 27.
